Course Objectives:
• The goal of learning a foreign language is to be able to communicate effectively in the target language in multiple contexts for various purposes, and to demonstrate an awareness of multiple perspectives with a knowledge of and sensitivity to the culture of the people who speak the language.
• In our classroom, students will think critically, work independently and collaboratively to gain knowledge of the language, the history, and the culture of the people who speak the Mandarin language. Students will be supportive and respectful to one another to create a safe environment for learning. Students will act with integrity while assuming responsibility for their work and their learning.
Class Procedures:
· Students will arrive on time, bring necessary materials, and follow classroom rules.
· Homework is assigned each school day. (1.5 hours per week for 6th graders, 2 hours for 7th graders, 2.5 hours for 8th graders)
· There will be quizzes and tests. Students may retake quizzes to improve their grades.
· Students are encouraged to seek extra help early and often.
Grading:
· Classwork (participation) 25%, Homework 15%, Quizzes 30%, Tests 30%
